Rànkings en dificultats

Segons el Chronicle of Higher Education, alguns presidents de Colleges americans no volen respondre a les enquestes que els fan algunes empreses per tal de fer rànkings (per exempke, el US News & World Report). En una carta que escrita per aquestes autoritats, demanen a les universitats que no participin en aquests processos.

Sembla que alguna cosa es mou en aquest camp. Al menys algunes Universitats són assenyades. Les reflexions que fan són interessants, diuen que estan en contra d’aquests rànkings perquè…

imply a false precision and authority that is not warranted by the data they use;

obscure important differences in educational mission in aligning institutions on a single scale

say nothing or very little about whether students are actually learning at particular colleges or universities;

encourage wasteful spending, gamesmanship and fraud in institutions’ pursuing improved rankings;

overlook the importance of a student in making education happen and overweight the importance of a university’s prestige in that process; and

degrade the educational worth for students of the college search process itself.

  1. El problema és que aquests rànquings signifiquen ja una mercantiliotzació absoluta de les universitats. Els EUA són el paradigma dels rànquings. Alguns estan plens de falsedats.
